Fleamarket decor in Delhi

India has the best inventory of vintage and antique furniture—both institutional and domestic—I’ve ever seen. Especially deco and moderne (bench above) not to mention traditional Indian wooden furniture of various vintages.

As discussed in this earlier post, in the early part of the 20th century the British administration in India hired architect Edward Lutyens to design the new city of New Delhi, and over the decades that he worked in India he brought Georgian, deco and moderne styles with him.

This room is, believe it or not, a closet.

This closet/dressing room is part of a townhouse on NYC’s West Side. The house was decorated by interior designer Samuel Botero in a mad eclectic mix of all possible ornate styles, including Egyptian Revival and Biedermeier and art deco, at his clients’ request. The rest of the place is very dark velvet/chairs with paws/animal print/excess, but then suddenly in the middle of it all there’s this bright fantastical room which actually transcends the general madness of the house and achieves something mythic.

Architecture in the movies, Part 5 – Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House

Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, has probably appeared in more Hollywood films than any other notable modern house and has also been heavily used for ad and fashion shoots, music videos and television. The house is currently for sale at US$15 million, hence these new photos by Tim Street-Porter for Christie’s Great Estates.
