Roy Henry Vickers gallery, Tofino

Roy Henry Vickers‘ gallery in Tofino, BC. The face of the building, similar to the style of a First Nations longhouse or “plank house,” was painted and handcarved by the artist, whose background is Haida, Heiltsuk and Tsimshian.

Historically the abundance of Western red cedar (there’s one in front of the gallery) as well as other resources led to the development of a strong West Coast aboriginal architecture, a form we now see far too seldom.

“After Math” art exhibition

Local artists Jeff Depner, Russell Leng, Aaron Moran and Sarah Gee (see previous post on her here) are all showing their work in AFTER MATH, a group show at East Van Studio, 870 East Cordova Street, Vancouver, November 26-28, 2010. The show continues on November 27 and 28 from 11 am to 6 pm.

Everyone loves the lamps in the Palais de Tokyo cafe

Various incarnations of the cafe in the Palais de Tokyo art museum in Paris, and its simple but excellent lamp array. A selection of Flickr photos by pavilion tone, Purple Cloud, roryrory, photocapy, and jennylampstand. Michael Lin’s flower floor was recently removed.
