Meanwhile, as Vancouver’s historic Chinatown gets very quickly gentrified–evacuations of historic businesses, sales and demolitions of buildings, and the erection of new glass luxury condos—we see it filling up with upscale little restaurants and cafes full of… antlers.

Wooden chandelier, Northern Rockies Lodge

Chandelier at Northern Rockies Lodge on Muncho Lake, Northern BC. Wooden rounds each hole-sawn to house a pot light. It was really quite beautiful.

The lodge is on the Alaska Highway that stretches from Dawson Creek BC to Alaska. It was built in 1942 at the request of the US government, worried about Russia during World War II.

The Holly Hobbie Retrenchment

On a trip with friends to the west coast of Vancouver Island one summer, I found a tin “Holly Hobbie” mug that had washed up on shore. The next morning I showed it to my friend Jonathan, who was cooking us breakfast.
