Whoa Canada is a film by the young activists who brought us “Shit Harper Did” during the 2011 federal election. It’s a really unsettling tour through the Canadian security state, with great cameos by Edward Snowden, Pam Palmater & many others, all gathered together in one excellent compendium. Check out the phalanxes of cops and guns that the government will produce against a bunch of kids with cameras and giant inflatable eyeballs.

2010 Olympics anti-graphics

Graphic design isn’t usually my focus, but when you’re interested in design and are living amidst the deluge of an impending Olympics in your hometown, the tide of graphics is impossible to ignore. Here’s a small sample of political cartoons and posters that incorporate the various Olympic logos – the standard logo with the five rings, as well as the Vancouver 2010 “Inukshuk” logo.

Yesterday a police officer came to my door and asked me if he and his team could use my backyard as a stakeout for something going down in the alleyway. Of course I said sure. He gave me a big grin and said, “do you like my undercover beard?”
I said I did, but that it needed work.
