I guess it’s becoming evident that I watch a lot of Scandinavian television. The Bridge (or Bron/Broen as it’s know in Scandinavia, meaning “bridge” in Swedish and Danish) follows a long murder investigation launched when a body—or, as it turns out, parts of two bodies assembled as one—is found in the middle of the Øresund Bridge that links Sweden and Denmark.

Borgen, popular political drama set in Copenhagen

Borgen is a Danish political drama sent in Copenhagen. Despite being a subtitled Danish show loosely based on complicated domestic Danish political events, it grew to unexpected popularity throughout Europe. Its protagonist is a prime minister attempting to hold together a fragile ruling coalition and trying to mitigate the ruination of her personal life.

Wallander

Wallander, the Swedish detective of Swedish books, TV and film, has now appeared in a BBC remake starring Kenneth Branagh. Shot in Sweden, the BBC remake has a Bergman-like mute bleakness despite the attractive minimalism of (most of) the interiors. The police station is  midcentury modern—are there really such police stations in small town Sweden?

My sister, an emergency pediatric doctor, can’t watch House M.D. because she says the medicine is either wrong or stupidly farfetched, and I feel the same way about the decor. What is all that pricey midcentury modern design doing in a hospital? Wouldn’t those little Eileen Gray side tables in the corridor be stolen in about five minutes?
