I don’t normally approve comments containing unwarranted snark, particularly if commenters have a lack of reading comprehension. AGAIN, this article was not written by me. As I stated above, this article is not by me; it’s just reprinted here. Quibble with some of the writer’s minor points if you must. But she is not writing from Vancouver. She is writing from London.

Elisa, Thanks for commenting. Just wanted to point out I didn’t write the article, Deena Stryker did, and I’m assuming she knows those things – I think it might be a piece of political theatre on her part. There are also other factors which make the Iceland situation different from that of the rest of the EU or other countries, not the least of which is that the entire population of Iceland is less than half a million. That’s right; the whole country is smaller than Vancouver. I would think you can get far different democratic processes to work in a country smaller than many cities. Iceland is, in effect, a city state. I think by posting the article I’m just being shit-disturbing too. But fault finding is always welcome here!

These countries’ current situations and options are therefore quite different from that of Iceland in 2008/9, I guess.
