<p>This is the Cuban villa where Hemingway lived from 1939-1960 and wrote many of his best known novels. It sits high in the town of San Francisco de Paula about half an hour outside Havana, and from the patio you can actually see Havana in the distance, hence the name Finca Vigía or &#8220;Lookout Farm.&#8221; The villa was discovered by Hemingway&#8217;s wife at the time, Martha Gelhorn, who was seeking somewhere spacious for the two of them to live.</p>

<p>This is the Mexico City house and studio of Luis Barragán, considered by many to be the foremost Mexican architect of the 20th century. Built in 1948, the house was listed as a <a href="https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1136">UNESCO World Heritage site</a> in 2004 and is now a museum.</p>

<p>I find this Todd Merrell Antiques magazine ad weirdly compelling. If you end up at his website (now defunct) it&#8217;s like being transported into Middle Earth or the underworld. You might have to retrieve an amulet with the help of a talking dog with eyes as big as saucers or something.</p>
