Walking bookcase by Wouter Scheublin. “The movement is based on the principles of the walking platform devised by 19th century Russian mathematician Pafnuty Chebyshev… when pushed, the legs carry the object along using a complex system of cranks, links and connecting rods.

the most simple chair designed by grycja erde. I like furniture that stacks and gets out of the way, especially if it forms a large solid platform to sit or put objects on.

This is the Mexico City house and studio of Luis Barragán, considered by many to be the foremost Mexican architect of the 20th century. Built in 1948, the house was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2004 and is now a museum.

These are a mix of glass and lucite, past and present. The bottom 3 pieces are from the 70s and all of the pieces at top are contemporary. Transparency puts furniture into the realm of the future or the imaginary, even when it also automatically harks back to the 1970s.

I found Lost City Arts by accident when searching for works by Harry Bertoia. Like this shop, Lost City has eccentric art and furniture pieces that are substantially more eye-catching or compelling than market-produced objects mainly because most of their art furniture was, in fact, made by sculptors.

This is artist Donald Judd’s loft in Soho, maintained as a museum and open for viewing after recent restorations. It was one of the first artist’s lofts in Soho – not to mention in New York – and is now almost the paradigmatic example of loft living.
