“After Math” art exhibition

Local artists Jeff Depner, Russell Leng, Aaron Moran and Sarah Gee (see previous post on her here) are all showing their work in AFTER MATH, a group show at East Van Studio, 870 East Cordova Street, Vancouver, November 26-28, 2010. The show continues on November 27 and 28 from 11 am to 6 pm. Facebook page for the show is here. From the press release:

Aftermath refers to the mathematical principles each of the four artists employ as a starting point for their work, which is then either re-directed, sublimated or even discarded as the work takes shape. They are all as concerned with the organic matter within the structure as with its formal aspects.

Jeff Depner‘s paintings pit architectonic organization against the organic, exploring compositional structure through the relationship between colours. Russell Leng an emerging artist in Vancouver. His paintings conjure a new sense of landscape by employing rigid shapes and organic marks to question relationships between natural and built environments. Aaron Moran creates geometrical assemblages from found wood, drawing attention to destructive acts of urban development. The resulting pieces become visual representations of the structures that once stood, as well as their resulting ravaged state, post-demolition. Sarah Gee uses collaged paper to create intensely coloured, meditative, abstract works she calls “heretical geometry”. By superimposing psychedelia onto more rigorous mathematical forms the results are vibrant and mysterious.
