Le Marché St.George opens in Vancouver this Saturday. Ceramics artist Janaki Larsen and her friends have opened this interesting grocery on St. George Street just off Main. These photos are stolen from its sneak peek. “We will be open from 9:00 a.m – 6:00 pm Saturday and 10:00-5:00 Sunday, Tues-Fri 8:00-6:00. Come over and have a coffee, check out Janaki’s pots, our teas from England, handmade cheeses from Agassiz, wool blankets from Oaxaca and other quirky goods.” PS try the “St. George” cheese from Agassiz, BC.
Meet the baker:
Historical note: Anyone in the Vancouver art scene already knows this location as “St. George Marsh.” The name of this half real shop/half art installation was, obviously, a pun on market/marché, both linguistically and artistically. In spirit it was a lot more marshy than tidy, more faded museum than boutique. Its founder, artist Gareth Moore, turned its contents into an artwork upon its closure. See it on the Catriona Jeffries Gallery site.
