Wallander, the Swedish detective of Swedish books, TV and film, has now appeared in a BBC remake starring Kenneth Branagh. Shot in Sweden, the BBC remake has a Bergman-like mute bleakness despite the attractive minimalism of (most of) the interiors. The police station is midcentury modern—are there really such police stations in small town Sweden? The decor all matches the decor, the police detectives match the decor, and the mood matches the decor: minimal affect with a blue accent. And no one can penetrate the loneliness of the humane but inaccessible protagonist.

gorgeous! i’ll have to investigate this remake further. thanks for posting!
If I am not mistaken. the station was fashioned on the real station in Ystad. There is such a bleakness to the whole series – except when they show some of the wonderful yellow fields of Skane.
I like your choice of subjects from Wallander to the new casino, hope you cover the Duane Linklater opening will not be able to go
I love the show and its aesthetic. Do you happen to who makes/made Wallander’s living room chair?
