On a hot day in Vancouver, I was thinking of this hotel. The Jukkasjarvi Ice Hotel in Sweden is rebuilt every year, always to a different design but always from ice and always with blankets of reindeer hide (sustainably produced nearby).

These subtle botanical-dyed textiles by Loraine of Grijs were made, in order, from:
Red onion (middle and right swatches)
Logwood and iron (2nd and 3rd photos) – this was the closest she could get to a dark brown.

The reason for recent blog inactivity is a much-needed studio renovation. Still producing our textile wares as usual, but we’ve spent every spare minute under the floor. Will be back when desk is back in order.
