“I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves.”
~Anna Quindlen, “Enough Bookshelves,” New York Times, 7 August 1991. This room is in Mildred’s Lane, the Pennsylvania artist’s colony that J. Morgan Puett and partner built over many years. Thanks to kellylynnwaters for the photo, which is originally from J. Morgan Puett via pjb.
I guess you could have an alternate title called, “Living with Silverfish”…..
or maybe that’s just over here…. : D
Oh yes… I’ve mentioned it before but I’ll mention it again. My dream house has one major wall that everything stems from and it is a bookshelf from floor to ceiling traversing the entire house. sigh…. one day one day.
that is a little slice of bibliophile heaven. i really like the black as well. brilliant quote.
One does have to suppress the “who’s going to dust this?” thought.
I would love to have my own library one day! To sleep in it would be even better! : )
Silverfish & dust are not the worst enemy for books. Light & moisture are higher on my list. I love the quote and totally agree that bookshelves are where decorating starts, or at least it is for me!
