Shigeru Ban is well known for his paper architecture, in particular the emergency structures designed for regions struck by disaster, notably houses for the Japanese city of Kobe hit by a devastating earthquake in 1995, and a series of paper tent structures for the UN High Commission for Refugees in Rwanda in 1999.

Atention People’s Faceing Northeast

Photocopied sign found taped to telephone pole in Chinatown, a few blocks from my studio. Beautiful poster of the apocalyptic warning variety. “The dotes are the extraterrestrials ship’s.” I love how ‘dots’ is misspelled, and apostrophe is on the wrong word, but A+ on spelling ‘extraterrestrials’ correctly.

This is current electro dance/music from S. Africa. The Shangaan people (or Tsonga) live in the Transkei area near the border with Mozambique. This is a bit of an aside, and it’s going back a bit farther, but when I worked in South Africa I had a thing for Shangaan jive though Zulu jive was more popular then.
